Step by Step: Birthday Candle Card

Recenly a BIG manufacturer put out a great line of birthday paper that included some super cute birthday candle embellishments.  I wanted to figure out a way to make them with any paper I wanted.  And, they are super easy, so I wanted to share it with you!

Step 1:  Gather your supplies- Glue, Adhesive, String (or embroidery thread) and patterned paper cut 2.5" by 4."

 

Step 2:  Using your adhesive (you could also use tape), adhere your string to the backside of your patterned paper on one side.

 

Step 3:  Start rolling your paper starting with the edge where you have ahered the string. Roll tightly and be sure to keep it straight. When you get about 1 inch from the end of the paper, add some quick drying glue (I think it works best if you use a scrap piece of carstock to spread it thin all the way to the edges). Finish rolling your paper and pinch until the glue has set.

 

Step 4:  Repeat steps 1-3 until you have the desired amount of candles you want to use on your card and then assemble your card.

Made You Look Monday - Alphabet Soup!

Talk about adorable!  My Mind's eye has created an amazing line full for little girls full of Sugar & Spice as well as Snaps & Snails and Puppy Dog tails for little boys!  Their new line for kids is just perfect!

Inspiration Friday! Using Border Stickers

Hey all, it's Erica!

I used to not know what to do with border stickers.  I'd see them on my sticker sheet, think "oh, they look nice" and grab something else.  LOL!

I finally found that for me, inspiration hits when I started cutting them up.  It makes them a lot more managable and useable! 

Here's an example where I did just that.  I used two different border stickers.  The first one I layered a on patterned paper strip that I had border punched and inked first.  The second one I mounted on foam adhesive.  I trimmed them both to be just a bit longer than the block of photos.

Another way to use them is to get inspired by the ends of the border stickers.  Sometimes, they have a great little detail on the ends that you don't want to lose.   So cut them in the middle and adhere them to the page with the cut ends lining up with the edge of your layout and the cool detail in the middle.  You can have them lined up with each other or have one up by the title and another below the photos.

Card Tip!

You remember from my last blog post how much I love to use my scraps to create cards.  Mostly, that is because I love to stretch my dollar and get the most out of my scrapbook purchases.  Using my scraps just makes good sense.  But creating the card fronts is just one part of the equation.  The other part is the card bases.  Of course you can get two regular size cards out of an 8.5 x 11 piece of cardstock without any waste. But when you only have 12x12 pieces of cardstock, you end up with tons of waste just to get two card bases.  Well, I have a solution for you!  I am going to show you how to get 4 card bases out of one sheet of cardstock!  Your cards will be just a bit smaller --- but they will be perfect size for A1 envelopes!  Here is a template for you:

Yep, all you have to do is cut 5 X 7 pieces out of your cardstock and you will end up with 4 cards out of one sheet!  Of course, this is also a good trick to get 4 photo mats out of one piece of cardstock too!

Tuesdays Tips/Technique...adding dimension

Hey there everyone, Stacy here.  Today's topic is adding dimension to your cards or layouts.  This is something I LOVE to do.  It just gives your projects a little something extra!  Sometimes it really can make something just pop off the page!!

There are many different ways of doing this.  The obvious most common way are pop dots.  They maybe foam or even glue pop dots and come in a variety of sizes & shapes.  I really like the foam ones for paper, and if it's something heavier I will reach for the glue ones.  You can grab all of you pop needs here.

Here is the card I made using some of the American Crafts This To That foam tabs.  Sometimes I cut them in half to make them last longer.

On the card I popped up the middle banner and the circle on the right side of the card.  Supplies used on this card: American Crafts adhesive, woodware stamps, Teresa Collins Celebrate line,Bazzill  cardstock.

I adore this stamp set and am soo glad I added one to my cart in the store!  It is even more fabulous in real life!!  I really like being able to create my own doilies out of patterned paper, cardstock, and I am totally going to try it out on some fabric.

Now I know what you are thinking.... these aren't doilies.  Why in the world are these added to a thread all about doilies??  Well, here's the scoop.  When I saw these I thought the designs were super cool and love the circular shapes.  My mind instantly thought doilies!!  They come in all shapes and sizes and don't necessarily have to have scallops around the edges so I thought this stamp set would make some pretty darn beautiful doilies as well.  I can see these being used to layer up on top of some of the above doilies so the pretty scalloped edges are seen.
