Challenge #2-The Ultimate 80's Girl

The ultimate 80's girl always had perfectly poofed mall bangs, a rockin' side pony tail and color coordinated stacked socks to go with her every outfit.

Here's your challenge: Create a project with ruffles (mall bangs), layers (stacked socks) and is asymetrical (side pony). You can make anything, card, tag, layout, minibook whatever your Brat Pack worshipping heart desires as long as it has the above three elements.

I'm, like, totally excited to see what you create!

Tuesday's Technique

Technique on Tuesday

Hi, my name is Erica.  I’m really excited to be on the A Walk Down Memory Lane Design Team and to start sharing with you all.

The technique I’d like to share with you today is making clouds out of scallop circle punches. 

First, punch a partial circle out of your cardstock. 

 
Then, feed that piece back into your punch, scallops first.  Make sure to line up the edge scallops with the punch scallops so you get nice fluffy clouds. 

 
Punch it out and there’s your cloud. 

 
You can experiment with this and make big, fat clouds and long, skinnier clouds.  The sky’s the limit!  ;)

Here’s a card I made using two clouds.

Supplies:  Fiskars Border Punch, Scalloped Circle Punch, Stamp-Hero Arts Everyday Sayings, Clear Spica Glitter Pen, Signo White Pen.

Blue and Brown Challenge!

{Tuesday} Tips and Techniques

I know you have photos out there that you have scrapbooked but have ever though of taking that photo and using it on a card?

I do and I just love it

Cards with Photos

Create cards with scraps and leftover photos. You know you have them and I know I do (too many..lol). So why not use them in a special way. 

They are quick and easy to make. 

Send those cards to.... 

Relatives who don’t get to see you or your kids very often 

Family and friends that you didn’t see and to tell them you missed them 

People who might appreciate a thank you note—even if it’s late 

Someone that needs cheering up now 

Anyone you can send a regular card would enjoy receiving a photo card. These handmade cards will never get tossed out. It will be cherished. So go over to your photos and make a card. It will be fun!

Here is my card that I made for a friend. The photo is the picture of a flower that grows in the front of the house.

Card Box Tutorial and Challenge

Today, I want to share a card box that I created for notecards.

Step 1.  Cut a piece of cardstock to 5 x 9.5.  On the 9.5" inch side, score at 3.5", 4", 7.5" and 8".  On the 5" side, score at .5" from either side.

 

Step 2: Fold and crease at all the scores.

 
Step 3:  Cut tabs.  You should cut the .5" section at each score mark, as shown. below, and the remove the .5" section on either side of the top 1.5"  This will become the top flap closure.

 

When folded up, your box should look like this.  I rounded the corners of my front flap:

 

Step 4:  Decorate your card box.  I chose to keep mine simple.

 

I used some of the papers to create some simple notecards to go along w/ this box.  The patters were just perfect for them.  The box will accomodate 3.75" x 3.5" notecards.

My challenge to you is to create your own notecard holder.  It doesn't have to be just like mine, show us your creative notecard holders/boxes :)

Thankful

I can not wait until Thanksgiving! It is my favorite holiday. I like the holiday season, but always seem so rushed I can hardly enjoy it. I love the fact that there is a holiday set aside just for being thankful. I have so many blessings in my life it would be hard to not be thankful for all I have.

Our Thanksgiving starts at a race near my house. It is a four mile race that benefits the local food bank. Every runner has to bring food to donate to the food bank. I run while my husband (and this year my daughter Frances) cheer on all the runners. Afterward we eat cookies and drink hot chocolate. Then we are off to my sister's house for a traditional turkey dinner. It doesn't seem like much, but it is my favorite day of the year. It reminds me how lucky I am to have my health, a house to live in, food on my table and my wonderful family. Really what else could I ask for?

The thanksgiving holiday inspired me to make this gift card holder. I am going to give it my sister on Thanksgiving. Every year she makes the dinner and tells us all to bring nothing. She has been out of work for a while now, but this year is no exception. She still said not to bring anything. I am going to put a gift card to a local grocery store inside to thank her for being a great host.

 I used products from the featured manufacturer Pink Paislee to make this card. I love the fetching line. The colors are perfect for fall. All Pink Paislee is 15% off this month too!

Using print

I love pairing up non-scrapbook products with my scrappy products for a fun look. I have always used the usual items like ribbon, product packaging and pretty much anything from my sewing box. The other day I saw a card made from the pages of an old book and I knew what I would be using next!

I bought an old book at a garage sale for a dollar (a 700 pager too!) and have been using the pages for all sorts of things. You can tear out the pages to wrap small gifts, punch shapes from the pages (flowers and butterflies look especially pretty), use the pages as a mat for your photos and lots more. I do scan the pages before I use them to check for content and any words that I might not want showing up on my gifts. I wouldn't want anyone getting a little extra surprise when they are reading their cards. So far so good though!

I created this "Welcome Home" card using a torn page from the book as one of my background papers. The printed page matched the small printing on the chipboard house and made a nice masculine looking card.

Supplies: Pink Paislee Fetching chipboard and patterned papers, Basic Grey Indian Summer element stickers, Making Memories letter stickers, Autumn Leaves Buttons, catseye ink, cardstock and raffia 

Product Review

Or maybe I should say product RAVE!  One of my new favorite manufacturers is Sassafras Lass.  I love this paper...the bright colors, the scalloped edge, and the fun designs all scream my name!  I think this paper is my favorite...and if you grew up in the '80's like me, it's probably yours too!  LOL!  It looks just like the wallpaper I had in my room growing up!  I also adore these little chipboard critters!  So cute!  Here are a few cards I made using the Sassafras Lass Happy Place line.

 

And remember...there are a lot more Sassafras lines to look at!  My other favorite is Owl Pals.  Oh, and Pocket Full of Rosies too!  You have to go check it out!  And right now a lot of the paper is 25% off!  Have a terrific Tuesday!  *Lynn*

Weekend Challenge: Do Something Unexpected

I hope everyone is recovering from losing an hour of sleep last night!  I know I have gotten a very late start! 

Today's challenge is to take a product in your stash and do something unexpected with it.  Put a different twist on a much used staple. 

I chose one of my favorite things right now...journal spots!  I love them!  I took this one from Making Memories and made it into the front of my card.  I love the result!  It is definitely a different looking card that someone will enjoy getting!  Here is what I came up with!

And the best thing about this card...everything I used is on sale in the A Walk Down Memory Lane store right now because it is all from our featured manufacturer...Making Memories!  (except the cardstock and ink!)

Supplies: cardstock, brown ink, journal spot, glitter stickers, pink paper, green paper, brad

Think Spring....and Spring will Come!

Hey everyone!

Oh my gosh can I just tell you how GREAT it felt to have a 6o degree day here yesterday?  I am SOOOO sick of winter!  I have a wicked case of bronchitis as does the DH...and the kids, poor guys, it's like a revolving door of respiratory bugs here at my house!   

Well, just as the promise of Spring is right about to reveal itself, I can FINALLY reveal a few of my cards from theMarch Card Kit!  Ok, seriously, I KNOW I said this before, but this new kit is my favorite so far...and I think you can see why!  Not only is it gorgeous, there are so many fun textures, colors, and embellishments I didn't even know where to start!

Check out these AWESOME Orange Obsession flowers from Prima...aren't they yummy?  And this Paper from Doodlebug designs?  TOO stinkin' cute!  I LOVE the glittery dots and flocked flowers, especially.

This kit is SUCH a good deal.  You can read all that's included HERE.  Seriously, it's a ton of amazingly cute stuff, and the papers are gorgeous! 

There is also a really cute stamp from Imaginisce, a beautiful array of glittery brads and buttons, and a full sized bottle of Stardust Stickles!

The funny thing is that I haven't been feeling well this week, so I started out thinking, oh, I'll make a card or two and I made like eight!  I seriously CANNOT put this kit down!

Valentine's Cards

The big day is almost here.  Valentine's Day that is!  In case you are like me and make your cards last minute, I thought I'd show you 2 cards I whipped up in about 15 minutes using the February card kit.  The robot was just perfect for my 5 year old son and my 2 year old daughter loves puppies right now so I knew exactly what to pick!  I love how easy it is to simply cut out one of the premade valentine's (which would be awesome just on their own!), add a little of the patterned paper, a few embellishments and voila!  A supper cute card in minutes!

Hey everyone!

HAPPY 2009!

How did you all ring in the New Year? I stayed put right here in my toasty warm house, stamping the night away with some girlfriends online. There were challenges and games EVERYWHERE and it was a BLAST!

Soooo, that being said, you all KNOW what today is right? Yes, it's the day after New Year's, but it's the release of our VERY FIRST CARD KIT at A Walk Down Memory Lane!
