Tuesday's Tip-Packaging, it's Not Just for Storage Anymore!

One of my first purchases at A Walk Down Memory Lane was these adorable Jenni Bowlin Chipboard buttons.  The damask, the aqua, they had me at hello!  ;)
They came packaged in a clear plastic blister pack on this cute label shaped chipboard backing.  I just couldn't bring myself to throw it away. 

I covered it with Jenni Bowlin patterned paper and embellished it with more Jenni Bowlin goodies and now I've got the perfect cover for a minibook about my baby girl in the hospital on the day of her birth.  I also bought another set of the buttons so I have a back cover, too.  :D
So the next time you get an order from AWDML, make sure to give that packaging a second look before you toss it in the trash or the recycle bin, you may just have something worthy of your memories!

Tuesday's Technique-Paper Piecing with your Stamps!

Hi ladies, it's me, Erica!  I love getting to post on Tuesdays as it's all about Tips and Techniques.  My new favorite stamping technique is paper piecing.  I'd seen it around the web but never really tried it before.  Well, the Gizmos and Gears stamp set I picked from Lizzie Annie Designs was just screaming for paper piercing so I jumped in and did it!

I gotta say, it was pretty dang awesome!  (Anyone else using words like dude and awesome a lot more since the I Love the '80's crop?) 

Here's how I did it.  First, I stamped my image on white paper and set it aside.  This is going to be your base image for assembling your piecing.  Next, I stamped that cute little guy on two different sheets of patterned paper from Bella Blvd.  Then, I grabbed my handy, dandy craft knife and went to work cutting on the stamped lines around the pieces I wanted in each color.  I just love fussy cutting so this was my favorite part. 

Finally, grab your base image and start glueing down the pieces.  I used a glue pen for the smaller pieces and my regular adhesive for the larger ones.  Once you've got your piece assembled, you're done!

The really nice thing about this technique is that I can take the leftover pieces and use them to make another robot.  Sweet!

Challenge #8-You in the 80's!

You in the 80's

We never seem to scrap ourselves enough so this challenge is all about you! Well, more correctly, it's all about you in the '80's. Create a layout using a picture of you in the '80's. Were you a brain, an athlete, a princess, a basket case or a criminal? (Name that movie!!!) We can't wait to see you in all your 1980's glory!

Challenge #2-The Ultimate 80's Girl

The ultimate 80's girl always had perfectly poofed mall bangs, a rockin' side pony tail and color coordinated stacked socks to go with her every outfit.

Here's your challenge: Create a project with ruffles (mall bangs), layers (stacked socks) and is asymetrical (side pony). You can make anything, card, tag, layout, minibook whatever your Brat Pack worshipping heart desires as long as it has the above three elements.

I'm, like, totally excited to see what you create!

Product Review: Fancy Pants Clear Creative Books

Hi there everyone!   I'm Scarlett; it's wonderful to be here and I am so excited to share the Fancy Pants product I just discovered for the first time in the AWDML store.  Have you seen the Clear Creative Book sets made by Fancy Pants??  You can find them in the store Here.

What I found appealing about these sets were the versatility they provide.  The pages are strong enough to create a mini album out of, yet they are also flexible.  This will allow you to alter the pieces in any number of ways to use as embellishments.  I am looking forward to trying this out!  There are also a ton of pieces in each set, providing a lot of scrappy play for your buck!

I have been very intimidated by clear mini albums, yet I love the look.  This set by Fancy Pants was perfect because it allowed me to make mistakes and not scratch up the album in the process of fixing them.

Here are a couple pictures of my completed project:

I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch the holes through each piece.  It went through with no problem.  I also used Fancy Pants Rub Ons and the date tag is from Elle's Studio.

The little tag was made with one of the additional pieces in the kit and the patterned papers are from the Fancy Pants Splendid line. It is YUMMY!!! SEI Doodley Doo Girl

As the featured manufacturer SEI is 25% off all month long and I couldn't pass up this fun flowery paper  and ribbon from the Doodley Doo Girl line. It makes me think of spring! And since Valentine's is coming soon I decided to pair it up with some Cornish Heritage Farms stamps with are also 25% off all month long. This particular set of stamps is now out of stock, but there are more fun stamps where these came from!

 

I used some American Crafts paper as my background, cut out the flowers and adhered them with foam tape, stamped the little bees and my sentiment and then colored them with colored pencils. Add a few Kaiser rhinestones and ric rac and you have a fun whimsical card.

Thankful

I can not wait until Thanksgiving! It is my favorite holiday. I like the holiday season, but always seem so rushed I can hardly enjoy it. I love the fact that there is a holiday set aside just for being thankful. I have so many blessings in my life it would be hard to not be thankful for all I have.

Our Thanksgiving starts at a race near my house. It is a four mile race that benefits the local food bank. Every runner has to bring food to donate to the food bank. I run while my husband (and this year my daughter Frances) cheer on all the runners. Afterward we eat cookies and drink hot chocolate. Then we are off to my sister's house for a traditional turkey dinner. It doesn't seem like much, but it is my favorite day of the year. It reminds me how lucky I am to have my health, a house to live in, food on my table and my wonderful family. Really what else could I ask for?

The thanksgiving holiday inspired me to make this gift card holder. I am going to give it my sister on Thanksgiving. Every year she makes the dinner and tells us all to bring nothing. She has been out of work for a while now, but this year is no exception. She still said not to bring anything. I am going to put a gift card to a local grocery store inside to thank her for being a great host.
